Washington, DC (WOLO) — U.S. Congressman Jim Clyburn is officially starting his 17th term in Congress. Friday, Clyburn who represents the 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House Of Representatives was sworn into office. The Sumter native has been serving in Congress since 1993 serving as an as Assistant Democratic Leader from 2011 to 2018 and 2023 to March 2024, and House Majority Whip from 2019 to 2022 and 2007 to 2010. He is the first African American to serve multiple terms as Majority Whip. Clyburn took to social media after the ceremony saying, “Today, I was honored to be sworn into the 119th Congress to continue serving South Carolina’s 6th Congressional District…The success of America is dependent upon a Congress that can put people over partisan politics, govern, and deliver real change.”     Categories: Local News, National News, News, Politics, State
