BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Community members across Baton Rouge came together for a prayer vigil in support of a family who lost their loved one during the deadly terror attack in New Orleans. Reggie Hunter, 37, was identified as one of the fourteen victims killed on Bourbon Street during the deadly terror attack. Hunter's family said the Baton Rouge native went out with his cousin to New Orleans on New Year's Eve to celebrate when the incident took place. The family said the cousin was one of the dozens of those who were injured during the attack. They said he is still in the hospital and recovering from his injuries. Here in Baton Rouge, community activist Cathy Toliver gathered residents from all over, including Hunter's family for a night of prayer. Reggie's sister, Courtney Hunter said she's still in complete shock. "Once they sat me down, I cried when they told me it," said Courtney. "I was in shock." She said she was the only one to make it to the hospital to see if he was okay. When she made it to the hospital, that's when they broke the news. "They told me he was in a stable condition. So, we didn't know anything about the passing until we got there," she said. Former Episcopal High School student killed, another injured in New Orleans terror attack Hunter leaves behind his two children. His sister says he was loved by many. "Loving care and a great father, great son, great big brother, always smiling. Family-oriented, everybody loved him on both sides of the family. Everybody loved him. So, he had an impact on everybody," she said. The family said they're grateful for the amount of support community members have shown them during the prayer vigil, not just in Baton Rouge but all over the country. "It felt good. It makes you feel better that everybody is showing love and that he had such an impact on a lot of people. And they loved him. I mean, just from people like all over the world," said Courtney. The family said they are still trying to process everything, including the preparations for Reggie's funeral and planning to go down to New Orleans to see the memorials in New Orleans honoring Reggie and the other victims. Courtney said it's a journey, but they're resilient. "It's going to take time but I think pretty much we can handle it," she said.
