BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- On Friday, Jan. 3, District 2 supervisor Chris Parlier was back at the Edison Mobile Home Park speaking with residents and offering assistance. Parlier's office has been leading the charge in helping residents, even though the park falls under State jurisdiction. The park has been without power since Dec. 8, when a three trailer fire took out the power, killed two women, and sparked a homicide investigation with the Kern County Sheriff's Office. Residents have been running some power off of generators while getting food and water when they possible.Just after Christmas, County Supervisor Chris Parlier sent Flood Ministries to the park to provide assistance to residents. Flood Ministries has been providing hot showers, taking headcounts of people who need shelter and those in need of temporary housing. Chris Parlier was at the park on Sunday and returned again Friday. "The county is really doing everything it can with all of our partners," Parlier said. "This area falls under responsibility with HCD and we're really trying to get them to the table to be able to do the things we should be able to do." Total number of homicides in Kern County drops to lowest yearly rate in a decade According to Parlier, the state department, housing and community development, or HCD has jurisdiction over the park. "Look, we're trying to help out any way we can. If it was just a normal property and not under state jurisdiction we would probably already have this park cleared out, and these folks into resources," said Parlier. "We cannot redtag it like we normally would through code enforcement that has to be done with HCD."Flood Ministries has been leading the charge on helping park residents but through Parlier's office, multiple other organizations are getting involved. Public health, human services, behavioral health, and aging and adult services are some examples of those getting involved. In an email, an HCD spokesperson passed the buck to the private owner of the park to turn the power on, who is an Los Angeles County resident and hasn't responded to any calls for comment. The county has the authority to take the owner to court to turn the power on, but has not confirmed if that is the plan yet. On Jan. 10, several Kern County organizations will be in Edison to offer any type of assistance.
