San Marcos prepares for upcoming inclement weather

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The City of San Marcos said it was monitoring conditions and taking precautions ahead of the cold front expected to hit Sunday. The front will bring freezing or near-freezing temperatures to the area.

According to the city, its utility crews are monitoring ERCOT alerts to stay ahead of any potential outages. The city’s outage map can be viewed here.
“Crews are on call to respond to isolated or widespread outages, should they occur,” the city said.
Street, stormwater and transportation crews are also on standby to address road conditions if needed. The crews will have chainsaws, sanders, salt spreaders and brine sprayers if any roadways become unsafe, according to the city.
To protect the pipes, all public park water fountains and restrooms will be closed. The city said the closures would begin by the end of the day on Saturday.
The city said the Southside Community Center would activate its winter shelter Jan. 6 through Jan. 8.
