GROVEPORT, Ohio (WCMH) -- Multiple agencies responded to a fatal water rescue in the area of Toy Road and Gateway Court Friday evening.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, a Hyundai Accent was approaching the entrance to the Amazon warehouse on Gateway Court around 5:40 p.m. when it lost control and crashed into a nearby pond.
Lieutenant Nick Davis with the Columbus Division of Fire says officials are still working to understand what exactly went wrong.
"P.D. is going to do their investigation as well and then just see what conclusively happened at this point just appears that they're just icy conditions,” Davis said. “There's no indication that there's anything nefarious going on."

The Sheriff's Office states that the passenger was able to exit the vehicle and swim to shore. Officers tried to rescue the driver but were unable to retrieve them until the Columbus Division of Fire Dive team arrived.
“One person was able to get themselves out, the other one was a little bit pinned," Davis said. "So, we had to initiate our dive team and hook the vehicle, and then go in and pull them out. "
The two individuals in the car were transported to Grant Hospital. The passenger of the vehicle was transported in stable condition. According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the driver of the vehicle was originally transported in critical condition and later pronounced deceased.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene including Madison Township Police, Hamilton Township EMS and Fire, Obetz Police, and Columbus Division of Fire. Officials say it was a collaborative effort among many departments to respond as quickly as possible.
"This is Madison Township area,” Davis said. “So, it's Madison Township, Obetz P.D. was in the area, some Columbus police, Franklin County, and then Columbus Fire Department, as well as our dive team & special operations."
