Winter storm warning in effect for Kansas: NWS

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Meteorologists have issued a winter storm warning for parts of northeast Kansas this weekend.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter weather warning around 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 3 for multiple areas in Kansas for the weekend of Jan. 4-5, upgrading its winter weather watch that was issued on Jan. 2. The alert includes the following counties and cities in Kansas and runs from 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 through to midnight on Sunday, Jan. 5.

First day back to school in Topeka could end with snow day
The NWS is forecasting snow accumulations between eight and 12 inches, sleet, ice and wind gusts up to 45 mph. Whiteout conditions are possible due to blowing and drifting snow, making travel treacherous in some areas while the storm is in the area.
