2 pedestrians struck crossing street, 1 fatally, in Jurupa Valley

Two pedestrians crossing a major street in Jurupa Valley were struck by a car on Thursday, Jan. 2, resulting in one of them dying and the other being hospitalized in critical condition, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.
The collision happened just after 6 p.m. near Mission Boulevard and Soto Street in the Rubidoux neighborhood. The pedestrians were crossing outside of the crosswalk on Mission when they were hit, said Lt. Deirdre Vickers, a sheriff’s spokeswoman.
The driver stopped as required by law.
Both pedestrians were taken to a hospital, where 42-year-old Freddie Medina of Jurupa Valley died, the Coroner’s Office said.
The cause of the collision was under investigation. The Sheriff’s Department asks anyone who witnessed the crash to call 951-955-2600.
