PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Berk’s Shoes and Clothing on Thayer Street in Providence said goodbye after 50 years of business. The owners of the store announced they are closing their doors and retiring. “I am really grateful I have had the opportunity to shop for 20 years,” customer Isabelle Beranbaum said.  “It’s so nice to have a local shoe store and not a DSW or a Rack Room shoes.” Many customers said the store was a true staple on the street and brought back nostalgic memories. “I’ve been coming here since high school,” Jacqueline Jeha said. “I am almost 40-years-old, so since 2004 I have been a loyal customer. I actually just purchased the same shoes I wore in high school again.” Customers also expressed they’re sad to see a local store go, as it’s one of the only mom-and-pop shops left on the iconic street. The store will officially close its doors on Jan. 25. For now, shoppers still have the opportunity to get their hands on shoes and clothing with major discounts throughout the store. Categories: News
