WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after four people were found dead inside a West Greenwich home.
The town's police chief, Richard Ramsay, said officers went to the Cheyenne Trail home to perform a well-being check late Friday morning. The department had gotten a call from the coworker of a woman who lives there, saying she didn't show up to work the past couple of days.
The victims, who have not yet been identified, all appeared to have been shot, according to Ramsay. However, he said police are not looking for suspects at this time.
Ramsay called it one of the worst crime scenes he's encountered in his 35-year law enforcement career.
"Things like this don't usually happen in a community like ours," he said. "It's very tragic."
Police are now working to figure out what happened and why it happened, according to Ramsay.
Throughout the day, investigators were seen going in and out of the home with evidence bags and speaking with neighbors. The R.I. State Police mobile crime lab and state medical examiner's office were also called to the scene.
Ramsay said the investigation is contained to the home and there is no threat to the community.
