SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- New Year's Eve turned out to be extra special for a nonprofit that provides furniture and household items to people in need.
The Furniture Mission of South Dakota had a goal in mind for 2024: serve 2,000 families.

"The last time the Furniture Mission got even close to 2,000 families was in 2007. We served 1,968," Furniture Mission CEO Janean Michalov said.
Not only did the nonprofit meet its goal, it went above and beyond serving its 2,024th family on New Year's Eve.
"And we thought, 'Wow, what an amazing accomplishment, and God is so good,'" Michalov said.
But as the Furniture Mission enters a new year of helping families, it needs your help.
The nonprofit needs furniture donations.
The board president says those can be hard to get after the holidays and during cold weather.
"We need everything. Anything from mattresses, couches, chairs," Furniture Mission Board President Dustin Hansen said.
The Furniture Mission is also looking for more volunteers.
"We have our regular volunteers who come in every week, and we're so thankful for them, but we need 20 to 30 to sometimes 40 volunteers per week Monday through Saturday to help serve families, drive trucks, deliver furniture, and even pick up furniture," Hansen said.
All the community support helps families right here in KELOLAND.
"It's just always an accomplishment to be able to be able to serve families at all, so to say we served 2,024 is amazing," Michalov said.
2025 will bring a big change for the Furniture Mission.
The nonprofit will move to a building on South Van Eps Avenue later this year.
