IMPD investigates first two homicides of 2025 after pair of shootings

INDIANAPOLIS -- 2025 is off to a violent start in Indianapolis after two men were killed in a pair of overnight shootings.
Lying in the doorway of an abandoned apartment, 53-year-old Charles Arnold Junior was found shot to death just after 4 o'clock Friday in Crown Hill near 30th and Capitol.

The area is patrolled by the Ten Point Coalition.
"Anti-violence groups like Ten Point are working in that area, but it's a challenge because of the drug trafficking," said Reverend Charles Harrison with Indianapolis Ten Point Coalition.
Arnold was pronounced dead at the scene. Police detained a person of interest, but detectives determined that person wasn't involved in the shooting and he was released.
While the cause of Arnold's murder remains unclear, the victim did have an active arrest warrant since September stemming from a prior drug-related charge.
Less than two months ago in November, IMPD and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force raided the same apartment building after a man claimed he was shot and wounded by a different suspected drug dealer who is now in jail accused of an unrelated murder.
"It has been a problem area for years with drug trafficking," said Harrison. "Police will come and arrest people, but then someone else will come back and sell drugs in that location too. I think drug trafficking is still the number one cause of violence in the city."
"We are going to be focused on getting the small amount of criminals that are perpetrating violence in our city. We are going to make the city safe," said IMPD Officer Tommy Thompson.
Unfortunately, just a few hours earlier late Thursday night, 29-year-old Sebastian Jones was killed and two others were wounded when police believe a gun sale turned violent at a home on Capsella lane on Indy's southeast side.
IMPD admits they're disappointed by the deadly start to the new year.
"From the top down, everybody is frustrated," said Thompson. "It takes the community. It takes not using a gun to solve your issues. You can't resort to violence to solve your issues."
"The numbers are still way too high. Too many people are dying in the city and we have to get the numbers down at least below 200 a year," said Harrison.
So far, police have not made an arrest in either of the two homicides.
