(NEXSTAR) – In-N-Out Burger is planning to bring its mustard-grilled burgers and spiritual fountain sodas to plenty of new locations in the coming years, with a handful of those restaurants confirmed across three states in 2025. The burger chain, which does not franchise its restaurants, currently keeps its operations (mostly) to the Western half of the country, with locations mainly in California, Arizona and Nevada. But there are also outposts in Colorado, Idaho, Oregon and Utah, as well as dozens of locations in Texas — which is the furthest east that In-N-Out has expanded. The reason for In-N-Out’s relatively slow growth (when compared to other fast-food chains) is rooted in its founders’ “early philosophy,” according to the company. Trader Joe’s is opening a dozen new locations in 2025: Here's where “Because of a rigorous commitment to quality and freshness, the company only builds stores that are located within a close proximity of their four in-house patty-making facilities. This ensures it will never take more than a single-day’s drive for their own trucks to deliver fresh ingredients to each restaurant,” In-N-Out’s official website explains. Despite this, In-N-Out is also currently planning to open new restaurants in New Mexico, Washington and Tennessee in coming years, with a hub for its East Coast operations to be based just outside of Nashville. As it currently stands, In-N-Out only has five restaurants slated to open in 2025, according to its official website. Those restaurants are coming to: Anaheim, California — 540 N. Euclid St. Carson, California — 20512 Avalon Blvd. Sylmar, California — 13864 Foothill Blvd. Nampa, Idaho — 16225 N. Marketplace Dr. South Salt Lake, Utah — 21 E. 2100 S. In-N-Out, however, had previously announced plans to open restaurants in other states in the coming years, including one in southern Washington which was supposed to open “by 2025.” A representative for the company was not immediately available to confirm whether plans or timeframes for this, or other grand openings, had changed. Tennessee’s first In-N-Out restaurants, meanwhile, are slated to open in 2026, along with a new location on the Las Vegas Strip which will be one of the company’s largest restaurants. New Mexico, too, will get its first-ever In-N-Out “by 2027,” owner Lynsi Snyder said. In-N-Out owner sets the record straight about ‘secret’ menu item While In-N-Out may be slow to open new restaurants, customers can usually remain confident that existing locations aren’t likely to close anytime soon. Since its founding in 1948, the company claims it has only closed one restaurant — a location in Oakland, California, which was shuttered in 2024 due to “ongoing issues with crime,” Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick said. The location’s employees were offered severance packages or the opportunity to move to other restaurants, the company said at the time. “Additionally, this location remains a busy and profitable one for the company, but our top priority must be the safety and wellbeing of our Customers and Associates — we cannot ask them to visit or work in an unsafe environment," Warnick said.
