Highway 96 reopens from Westcliffe to Wetmore after rockslide

(CUSTER COUNTY, Colo.) — Highway 96 is now fully open from Westcliffe to Wetmore after a rockslide forced its closure for several days.
The Custer County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) posted the update to its Facebook page shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3.

Just days before, on Tuesday, Dec. 31, CCSO announced that McKenzie Junction at the intersection of Highway 96 and Highway 165 had partially reopened to traffic and that crews would continue working to clear the rockslide throughout the New Year’s holiday.

The intersection of Highway 96 and Highway 165 had been closed since Sunday, Dec. 29, after a large rockslide blocked all lanes of 96 and made the intersection of both highways impassable.
