CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) unveiled its first cultural inclusion bus wrap on Friday. The artwork, created by Charlotte artist Javon Jeter, celebrates the community’s rich diversity and cultural heritage. The bus wrap is part of CATS’ ongoing commitment to fostering belonging, unity and inclusion among all riders in the greater Mecklenburg community. “Javon’s artwork captures the diversity and cultural heritage of the community we serve,” CATS interim CEO Brent Cagle said. “At CATS, we are always striving to create more equitable experiences for both our employees and our riders, and this special bus wrap is reflective of our commitment to do so. This initiative also aligns with the broader strides we’ve made this year in strengthening our transit services, ensuring that our systems are accessible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of the entire community.” In 2024, CATS reached several milestones that further highlight its commitment to serving the community, including: The City of Charlotte’s purchase of 22 miles of railroad tracks and adjacent property for the future Red Line, a critical step toward expanding the region’s mobility infrastructure. The reopening of the Independence Boulevard Busway, providing faster, more reliable service for key routes. The launch of STS+, an expanded Special Transportation Service providing individuals in Mint Hill with disabilities a dependable transportation alternative to access jobs, education, medical appointments, shopping, entertainment and other community services.  The STS+ area is beyond the required ADA service area and not federally required, furthering CATS’ commitment to meet the growing needs of our communities.
