BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — With winter settling in throughout North Dakota, flu, COVID and RSV have also been settling in among North Dakotans.
According to North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services statistics, flu cases in the state totaled 302 for the week ending December 21, 2024 — an increase of 194 cases from the week before. The four subtypes of influenza circulating in North Dakota reported by Health and Human Services are Influenza A, Influenza A 2009 H1N1, Influenza A H3N2 and Influenza B. The majority of flu cases in the state are Influenza A.
The number of COVID-19 cases in the state totaled 441 for the week ending December 21, 2024, an increase of 142 cases from the previous week.
The number of RSV cases in the state totaled 40 for the week ending December 28, 2024, an increase of 18 cases from the week before. RSV is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms. However, infants and older adults are more likely to develop severe RSV and require hospitalization.
According to the health statistics posted online, all the cases reported have been slowly but steadily increasing over the past several months, but recently have taken larger jumps week to week.
Health and Human Services recommends vaccination to help prevent or reduce the severity of the respiratory illnesses circulating in the state.
