Tucker Greer wasted little time breaking onto the scene last year for University. In the third game against Beachwood, he had a grand slam and continued his hot streak from there. He finished last season with a .303 batting average, eight doubles, two home runs and 25 runs, the latter two leading the team. That also caught the eyes of college coaches as well. Greer committed to Case Western Reserve on Dec. 18, making him the second Preppers senior to make his commitment this preseason, along with Aaron Moss. “As soon as I started getting recruited by Case, I knew that it was the right fit for me,” Greer said. “The coaches have always believed in me, and that is exactly what I was hoping for as I go to college and play baseball. When I watched Case play last spring, their style of coaching stood out to me. They believe in their players and show constant support to help their players succeed. As I go play in college, I know that the coaches are going to help support me and develop me so I can reach my greatest potential.” Greer had a limited role as a freshman, appearing in just seven games and recording just two hits. But in his sophomore year, he made a big jump. He played in all but one game for University and had a .272 batting average with four doubles and 15 runs. Being around players such as Ryan Pattison, Joey Zigman and Ben Elliott in the beginning of his career helped him grow as a hitter and evolve. Now one of the senior leaders, Greer is excited about the chance to not just lead the Preppers back to a deep run in the postseason. “Being a senior leader at University, it will play a large role on how I go into college,” Greer said. “Gaining leadership experience in high school has helped teach me many lessons that I will use when I get to college and I hope to lead in the same way and be a seen as a person that other people can look up to.” University made it to the regional round in Greer’s first two seasons, making the regional final when he was a sophomore when the Preppers fell to Walsh Jesuit. Last season, the Preppers fell in a district semifinal, all in Division I. But the division expansion moved the Preppers down to D-III, where the competition might be fierce but Greer is ready for the challenge. Getting the college choice done before the season being is something he thinks will help as the Preppers have high expectations for the season. “Now that I have made my decision, I am going to focus on getting better day-by-day,” Greer said. “The competition at the Division III level, especially the UAA is very competitive and I am going to focus on preparing my self so I can help make an impact for the program right away.”
