SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- As widespread rainfall moves across the San Francisco Bay Area on Friday, the National Weather Service has issued a beach hazards statement and high surf advisory. Rain showers began in the North Bay early Friday morning before increasing coverage to the south by 6 a.m., according to NWS. Weather officials said the rain will persist through Friday’s morning commute as the system continues to spread south and eastward. The wet weather will impact the Bay Area through the afternoon until tapering off in the evening. Santa Cruz Wharf to reopen Saturday after section collapsed A beach hazards statement from NWS is in effect from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday due to moderate to high risk of sneaker waves at the Pacific coast. Officials warn of dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and remind people to never turn away from the ocean. It is also advised that pets be kept on leashes and away from the water. As the beach hazards statement expires, a high surf advisory goes into effect at 9 p.m. Friday. Breaking waves of up to 25 feet are expected across the Bay Area coastline, the weather service said. The high surf advisory is set to expire at 3 a.m. Sunday.
