RILEY (KSNT) - A meat producer based out of Riley County lost tens of thousands of dollars this week in an alleged internet scam.
The Riley County Police Department (RCPD) said on Jan. 2 that Meatworks of Kansas, located at 315 Main Street in Riley, was the victim of scam. The business allegedly lost $60,000 after it was deceived via email for the purchase of 15,000 pounds of ground beef by a scammer.
27 News spoke with the owner of Meatworks of Kansas who said the thief posed as a legitimate buyer of the beef. However, the scammer managed to get away with the meat without paying the $60,000 the business was owed.
