DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Police are investigating a shooting after three people showed up at a Durham hospital overnight with gunshot wounds.
According to the Durham Police Department, at around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday officers responded to a report of three people with gunshot wounds showing up by way of a personal vehicle at a local hospital.
"Two victims with non-life-threatening injuries, one in critical condition," officers told CBS 17.
Officers say their preliminary investigation at the hospital led them to a scene on the 2400 block of Guess Road.
The block has a shopping center with stores, restaurants, and a nightclub. Most of those businesses were closed when the shooting happened.
A manager at the nightclub tells CBS 17 he was inside when the shooting happened, but did not hear the gunshots over the loud music. He said security footage shows the people shot did not come from the club.
One parking lot over from the shooting is Atlantic Auto Exchange Inc., which is owned by Chip Stabler. He said a friend asked him if he was aware of the shooting in the morning.
In his thirty years in business in the area, Stabler said he can't remember a time when three people were shot nearby. He said he feels safe and hasn't had significant issues.
"There have been things that I've read about, but it's never been right here near us," Stabler said. "Years ago, there was a man killed who ran a business that's probably three blocks down that way. There certainly has been violence, but I'm really not that concerned. We just really haven't had a problem."
Officers said the shooting is still an active investigation.
