RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — North Carolina is the fifth most popular moving destination in the nation, a study released Wednesday has found. According to the study from United Van Lines, North Carolina had 60% inbound migration in 2024. The top motivation for moving to North Carolina was a desire to be closer to family (25%). The study found North Carolina's most popular moving destinations in 2024 were Wilmington (83%), Hickory (75%), Greenville (74%), and Greensboro/Winston-Salem (65%). Ahead of North Carolina, the most popular moving destinations in 2024 were West Virginia, Delaware, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C. According to the study, the top outbound state was New Jersey.
