FITCHBURG, Wis. (WFRV) - A police department in southern Wisconsin had a busy New Year's Day, citing and arresting multiple drivers for OWI, one of which came close to crashing into a home. Officers with the Fitchburg Police Department say that its first Operating While Intoxicated arrest of 2025 came less than 30 minutes into the New Year when a 60-year-old man was stopped and cited for his first OWI offense. Fitchburg Police Department However, the Department's more intense incident on New Year's Day happened around 1:20 p.m. when officers got a call about a dangerous driver near Seminole Highway. The caller stated they were following a driver who allegedly hit a pole and then continued southbound on Seminole Highway. They then reportedly saw the vehicle drive off the road before it got to McKee Road. Officers say the driver then avoided crashing into a house and came to rest up against a tree after driving through a snow fence. The driver, a 40-year-old woman, was subsequently cited for her first OWI offense.
