BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — "I don't know what we'd do without her, to tell you the truth," Marge Brandt, resident at Marillac Manor, stated. Marge Brandt is one of many residents at Marillac Manor senior living who values her friendship with Barb Dwyer.Barb has lived at Marillac for nine years, making countless friends and developing a growing reputation for her kindness and helping hand.She credits one person for her giving nature. "I had a fantastic mother," Barb exclaimed. "She just was a doll, and she helped people all the time." Her mother passed those traits on to Barb.After she finished college, Barb helped her grandmother for over 20 years, and continues to help as many others as she can, including fellow resident Leona Feist. "Seems like no matter what we need, Barb is around," Leona Feist, resident at Marillac Manor explained. "I just love her for that. And also, if you call her, and you've got to have something done right now, but say it doesn't have to come till after dinner, she comes right away." And Barb starts her days bright and early. "I get up about, well, between five and six, and I deliver the tribune here," Barb said. Her activities vary day to day, from cleaning the bathroom for friends like Marge, to tidying up just in time for some puzzle work with Kenny Huck. "She's a good kid," said Kenny Huck, resident at Marillac Manor. While the help is much appreciated by all, it's the relationships that are truly valued. "She has been a good friend, and we definitely enjoy our Mahjong days. We have a good time. So it goes beyond just helping, except she's too smart at it," Marge chuckled. "If we have anybody new come in, I say Barb is going to help train you, not me." Barb's days are always filled to the brim, just the way she likes them. "Marge had just said, with Mahjong, and puzzling with Kenny and walking with Ray," Barb explained. "And we used to have cards a lot upstairs. And Marillac has Monday through Friday activities at 2:30 and there's crafts and games and lots to do. And coffee every morning right after chapel at nine." And we can't forget the weather! "I like to walk. I like to get out. I like to do weather checks. I love to do weather checks," Barb exclaimed. "My mother was a weather fanatic, so I just do that for something to do." And whether she's vacuuming a friend's living room or simply lending a listening ear, Barb is simply happy to be there for others. "She's always pleasant and always happy and I've never seen her grouchy," Marge shared. "Not with me anyway! She laughs at that, but she isn't. No, she's very, very upbeat, nice to have her around."
