D’Andrea Walker becomes Acting Baltimore County Executive

Baltimore County’s administrative officer D’Andrea L. Walker is now the acting county executive, following the resignation of former Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski Jr., who will be sworn into Congress on Friday.Walker will serve in the role until the Baltimore County Council selects an interim county executive to fulfill the remaining two years of Olszewski’s term and that individual is sworn into office.“Our highest priority is to continue delivering the world-class services – public safety, code enforcement, government resources and more – that our communities rely on,” said Acting Baltimore County Executive D’Andrea L. Walker in a statement. “I thank County Executive Olszewski for his years of dedicated service and I know that all our agencies and departments are prepared for this transition. Together, I am confident that we will continue to deliver focused, innovative, and fiscally-sound decisions that meet and exceed the needs of our residents.”Olszewski, a Democrat, will be sworn in Friday as a member of the 119th Congress. He will represent Maryland’s 2nd congressional district.The Baltimore County Council held public interviews on Dec. 16 for five candidates vying to become the interim county executive. The council plans to make a final determination of their selection at their Jan. 6 legislative session.“We will continue focusing on our residents’ needs and collaborating with our community partners as we go through this transition,” Walker said in a video message.After the interim county executive is sworn in, Walker will resume her roles as the county’s administrative officer.Walker previously served in leadership roles for Prince George’s County Government, the Maryland Transit Administration, Maryland Department of General Services and the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. She became director of Baltimore County’s Department of Public Works and Transportation in 2020, and was appointed to county administrative officer in April 2024.
