Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) announced Tuesday that she would be endorsing Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) for House Speaker, a notable win for the Louisiana Republican given Greene has at times found herself at odds with him. “Here’s what I'm asking my colleagues to do: Let's put aside our pride, let's put aside our egos and let's put aside the infighting," Greene said in a video posted on the social platform X. "It's time to come together as Republicans, and it's time to do whatever it takes to make sure that we deliver the mandate that the American people told us to do.” “And that’s why I'm excited tomorrow. I cannot wait to get started. I'll be voting for Mike Johnson,” she continued. “I will be looking ahead in complete hopefulness and working as hard as possible.” Lawmakers are convening at noon to elect a Speaker, with Johnson hardly able to afford any defections as he looks to keep his gavel. Greene hasn’t always seen eye-to-eye with Johnson, particularly last year when she tried to remove him as Speaker after filing a motion to vacate, airing frustrations over issues such as providing further financial support to Ukraine and reauthorizing the country’s warrantless surveillance powers. That effort largely fell flat. That hasn’t stopped her criticisms of Johnson, though she said in November she wouldn’t rule out voting for him as Speaker. The two also held met privately later that month, which a source described to The Hill at the time as “productive.” Greene nodded to her rocky relationship with Johnson in her video, saying, “You all have seen me disagree with Mike Johnson at times. You've seen me fight against him at times.” At the same time, she acknowledged, “All of you are sick and tired and fed up out of the drama and all of the garbage that comes out of Washington, D.C.” “All of you at home, and myself included, are ready for the drama to end,” she added.
