What We’re Tracking Turning colder Friday Freezing rain starts late Saturday Heavy snow likely on Sunday A WINTER STORM WATCH is in place for the entire viewing area from Saturday afternoon into late Sunday night. Be prepared for winter weather and significant travel impacts. We're off to a chilly start this morning with temperatures in the 20s. Sunshine is expected early on before some clouds move in midday. Highs should reach the middle 30s this afternoon. Our next winter storm moves in this weekend, heading straight for the area. We anticipate the storm to begin as light freezing rain Saturday into Saturday night before changing over to sleet then snow through the early hours on Sunday. A layer of ice up to 1/4" of an inch is possible before the changeover occurs, with higher ice totals further south expected. After that, heavy snow and strong wind could lead to whiteout conditions during the day on Sunday. Several inches of snow is expected especially for those north of I-70. Locally higher amounts are possible especially if we see that changeover to snow earlier on Much colder air will move in at the start of next week, bringing single-digit lows with wind chills near 10 to 15 degrees below zero. That cold air lingers through much of next week. KSNT Storm Track Meteorologist Gabriella Gomez
