We're currently in “Returnuary,” which is the month most popular for bringing back items to stores, and experts say this year could break records.
“I'm going to return stuff for my daughter-in-law because I got all the sizes wrong and I feel so bad its easy to go in the stores and just return it always Marshalls,” said Ellen Durko of East Windsor, Connecticut.
Retail stores across the nation and here in Massachusetts are experiencing the rush. Experts say returns were expected to reach $890 billion in 2024.
Many shoppers are believed to have taken part in some of the following practices over the holidays, causing them to return more items than usual.
“I had to return my Apple Pen I got the wrong kind from my grandpa, and I feel like is usually pretty good about that stuff because they have so many people to help,” said Emma Allyan of Holyoke.
40 percent of retailers across the country are hiring more staff this time of year, to make sure returns can be handled properly, but the downfall for them is that processing returns can cost them around 30 percent of an item's original price.
In the meantime, some are grateful for the outcome they had this year. Stores like Walmart, Macy's, and Best Buy have extended their return policies, because of the holidays. Make sure to check the store's policy before you head out the door.
