WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- We've all seen those weddings full of cliches, but this one may be the cheesiest. A Frederick, Md. couple's wedding became an instant phenomenon when they got married during college football's Cheez-It Bowl. Erin Doolin and Erik Yakes told DC News Now they met on Hinge in Washington, where they also got engaged before moving to Maryland. They were planning a wedding when Erik's brother mentioned a contest to get married at the Cheez-It Bowl in Orlando. "He was like, 'I know an engaged couple,'" Doolin said. Fans react to Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin being voted into the Pro Bowl They entered the sweepstakes and won, planning a trip for themselves and a wedding party to Orlando for the bowl game in less than a couple of weeks. "It was just shock from [friends and family]," Yakes said. "Now we have to panic and go to Florida in two weeks." The wedding, captured on video and shared on social media, has gotten plenty of attention from both people who know the newlyweds and strangers. "We expected, I think, a little bit of attention," Yakes said. "I don't think we expected what happened." Among the online comments that stood out to the couple was a headline that Yakes said read, "A couple gets married at the Cheez-It Bowl because we live in a post-shame society." "It was really funny," he said with a laugh. The couple is taking all of the comments -- even the ones filled with envy and criticism -- with a smile. "You've got to have fun and embrace everything," Doolin said. "And remember that you're just here because you love each other and you want to have the best day ever." The couple said they both love Cheez-Its, naturally, and college football — Doolin is a Penn State Nittany Lion and Yakes is a Florida State Seminole. They are planning another wedding for later this year to include family but called the Cheez-It Bowl wedding a perfect fit given their sense of adventure and spontaneity.
