SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — It didn't take long for Rhode Island to welcome the state's first baby of the new year.
A South County Hospital spokesperson told 12 News a baby boy was born there at 12:03 a.m. on New Year's Day.
The baby boy, who weighs approximately 8 pounds, is the couple's first child, according to a hospital spokesperson.
It was also the first time that the midwife who delivered him had ever done so for the state's first baby of the new year, despite being on the job for more than 30 years, the spokesperson added.
