Denver was recently chosen to host the newest National Women's Soccer League team, according to a report from Sportico. Denver was competing against Cincinnati and Cleveland for the winning bid for the new NWSL team. That fee is nearly double the second-highest fee paid for an NWSL team at $53 million. It is also the highest fee paid across all of women's professional sports for an expansion team. The investment group is headed by Robert Cohen who is expected to be the team's control owner, Ben Hubbard, Tom Dunmore, Nicole Glaros and Jordan Angeli. Cohen submitted an undisclosed portion of the $110 million fee on Tuesday, according to the report by Sportico. Sportico also said the group is still seeking other investors. As it stands, the team would have no official stadium to call home and would have to use other available venues until the Denver investment group can complete the soccer-exclusive stadium they plan to develop. Denver will become the 16th member of the NWSL.
