GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - A bomb threat prompted a stretch of Interstate 85 to close in Greenville County. According to the Department of Public Safety, a State Transport Police officer pulled over a tractor trailer due to a missing license plate around 2:45 Thursday afternoon. The driver, a man from Illinois, indicated there was an explosive device inside the vehicle. All six lanes of I-85 were shut down near Mile Marker 44 as the threat was investigated by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, SLED and the FBI. SLED confirmed its bomb squad responded to the scene. I-85 reopened several hours later when the Greenville County Sheriff's Office reported the situation was safe. No explosive devices were found inside the tractor trailer, according to the Department of Public Safety. The South Carolina Governor's Office said Governor Henry McMaster was briefed on the incident. The driver of the tractor trailer was arrested and is in the custody of the South Carolina State Transport Police.
