Sid Edwards gets sworn in as MayorPresident for East Baton Rouge Parish

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Sid Edwards was officially sworn in as the next Mayor-President of East Baton Rouge Parish on Thursday evening.
Edwards won the election race against two-term candidate Sharon Weston-Broome in December. He is the first Republican since 2000 to be in office, making Louisiana completely red in elected offices.
He said he's now ready to push forward his many platforms which he says focuses on many issues affecting the city.
"I pledge to you today. I will work every day of my term as your Mayor-President," said Edwards. "Together with each of you to break the chains of division in our city."

He said it's now time for people to help shape the future of the city-parish.
"We must decide we are no longer willing to let our neighborhoods, our streets and our hearts be ruled by fear," said Edwards.
With his many plans for reforms like safety and economic development, he said there will be a more unified push for more including working with neighboring cities and fighting for better opportunities.
"Certainly, it will take more police officers. I've said that on the campaign trail at every stop. But it will also take a change in attitude on the part of our citizens," he said.
One of the many key issues he says he will start his work on is helping decrease the crime surrounding the area.
