'How am I even going to pay for this?' Local family hosts fundraiser for a loved one's heart transplant

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — James Luis Hardy has been in the hospital for two months, waiting for a heart transplant. He's had issues with his heart since he was an infant and even with the possibility of getting a new heart, he says the financial burden can be overwhelming.
"The financial aspect is sometimes even worse than what you're going through," Hardy said, "because you're like 'how am I even going to pay for this?'"
Hardy is from Rochester but now lives in Florida. As a show of support his family here, including his mother Elsie Antonetti, and his sister Wendy Korrea, are hosting a fundraiser. "The family will have to take on the burden of the commute, the expenses, and everything that comes with it," said his sister. "So, although we've set a goal of $7k, it would be amazing to help them with more."
Hardy says he would love to go hiking or do things that other people do like going on vacation and walking up stairs without needing to take a break. And the long hospital stay is taking its toll. "There's a lot of ups and downs," Hardy said. "I try to stay strong for my family, and stuff like that, but there are moments when you break down."
Although he keeps himself busy with his adult coloring books, Legos, and PlayStation, he says he'd like to get home and be with his family full-time.
That fundraiser is on Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight.
