ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the week is the Penn Yan girls bowling team. Penn Yan took first place in the Rush Henrietta Invitational Tournament at ABC Gates Bowl. In the first round, the Mustangs defeated Rush-Henrietta to earn the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. In that match, Taylor Morse bowled a 515 and Anella Tillman bowled a 623 with a high game of 225. Julia Maldonado earned high series and high game honors by bowling a 645 series with a high game of 259. "It can be really challenging at times and overwhelming and nervous. I was very nervous today, but I knew that I just had to calm down and just do it for my girls," Tillman said. "You just have to, like, think about it before you go and just really tell yourself it's going to be okay. Whatever happens, happens." The Rush-Henrietta Invitational took six hours to complete as Penn Yann competed in several matches on its way to the championship. As the leader of the group, Maldonado gave her thoughts on the second half of the long day of competition. "This is where it becomes real because in the beginning, like Bella (Miller) said, it's individual, but now it's really team oriented," she said. "I trust my girls, I knew we would do it." Penn Yan went on to defeat Hilton by 122 pins, then defeated Spencerport by 77 pins to punch its ticket to the final where it once again met Rush-Henrietta.  In the first game of the two game series, Penn Yann won 203-172. Maldonado bowled the ninth frame and set up Tillman to finish off the match. If she got a strike, it would clinch the win. Not only did Tillman get the strike, she finished off the frame with two more strikes to give the Mustangs the championship win. Congratulations to the Penn Yann girls bowling team for earning the Spotlight Team of the week!
