Summer Avenue shopping center fire was arson, MFD says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A fire that caused $4.1 million in damage to a strip of Summer Avenue businesses was caused by arson, the Memphis Fire Department said.
MFD said the blaze started at 3:47 a.m. Dec. 23 on the showroom floor of Scooters Plus at 3245 Summer in Highland Heights.

That business is connected to several others in a recently renovated strip shopping center. A new restaurant nearby was temporarily closed due to damage.
Businesses nearby had to evacuate and families began to leave out of their homes due to the smoke coming over into the neighborhood. No one was injured.
