EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Keep your New Year's resolutions and start 2025 with a new four-legged friend.
The community is encouraged to adopt a pet during the “Account-A-Buddy” adoption event, where adoption fees for dogs over 30 pounds will be waived from Friday, Jan. 3, through Friday, Jan. 31.
Available pets can be adopted at the following locations:
El Paso Animal Services Center (5001 Fred Wilson Ave.)Open daily 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Westside Adoption Center (5625 Confetti Dr.)Open daily 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Mission Valley Adoption Center (9068 Socorro Rd.)Open daily 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Adopting a pet not only supports your resolution to stay active and healthy but also saves the lives of the shelter animals, the City of El Paso said in a news release.
The City said studies show that pet ownership can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and encourage physical activity.
Activities like daily walks and playtime with a new companion can keep you motivated and add joy to your routine.
"With over 20,000 pets entering El Paso Animal Services Centers in 2024, medium-to-large dogs make up the majority of the shelter population and are often the most overlooked. By adopting, you provide these deserving pets with a second chance," read the news release.
In addition, every adoption includes spay/neuter surgery, a microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations, and city registration, the City said.
