UPDATE: (01/02/25) Police have made an arrest in connection to a shooting that killed a 16-year-old girl on Christmas Eve. Gastonia Police says with the help of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, they arrested a 14-year-old boy around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. The juvenile is charged with second degree murder for the shooting that took place at the Weldon Heights complex on Barkley Street. ORIGINAL ARTICLE: (12/24/24) GASTONIA, N.C. – A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Gastonia. Police say it happened around 11 a.m. on Christmas Eve. Police spent most of the day on the scene of the shooting in the Weldon Heights complex on Barkley Street working to learn the circumstances. We are still working to learn the name of the victim and if she was the intended target. No arrests have been made at this time. Police are asking anyone with information that could help solve the case to call 704-866-6702.
