Frigid, windy, maybe snow. Yep, it's the new year in North Dakota

BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Yeah, it's cold outside, and getting colder. Yes, there's a chance of snow this weekend.
Did you expect anything less in a North Dakota January at the start of the new year?
The Thursday morning chill is a forerunner of colder temperatures and higher winds to come leading into the weekend.

KX Meteorologist Stone Schafer notes a Cold Weather Advisory will run all day Friday, from 12:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., for the northwest section of North Dakota from the western border to just before Devils Lake. Wind chills are expected to reach as low as -32 degrees.
Minot and Williston are within the advisory area.
"Bismarck got a light dusting this morning [Thursday], so we do have snow-covered roads in the Bismarck-Mandan area, so be careful with that," says Schafer.
And if you think it's a bit cold today, wait until Friday morning across the state, especially the northern tier.
"You'll have wind chills of 20 and 30 below zero in areas up to the north central and northwest — hazardous wind chills, frostbite can happen very quickly — 10 minutes or less with these wind chills."
The southern tier is looking at temperatures around -15 degrees or so.
Snow starts working its way into the state from the southwest, hitting the Dickinson area late Friday night, and slowing as it moves northeast. Most of the snow chances for accumulation will be in the southwest corner around Dickinson, which could get four inches on Saturday, Schafer says. The Bismarck area could possibly see two inches on Saturday.
Things "warm up" a bit, relatively speaking, next week when we face temperatures in the teens on the "plus" side of the thermometer.
