BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — North Dakotans who qualify can now start applying for a North Dakota motor fuel tax refund. The application period started January 1, 2025 and provides refunds to those who use vehicles or machinery in specific areas such as fuel used in farming operations, fuel used off public highways, fuel used by state or local governments and other categories. The uses, again, are specific and there is no refund opportunity for those who simply fill up and use their vehicles for basic, everyday activities. The refunds are for fuel used in 2024. A detailed list of qualifying fuel usage and other requirements can be found on the State Tax Commissioner’s website at the motor fuel tax refund page or by calling the Motor Fuel Tax Section at 701-328-2702.
