Weather Forecast: Lake effect snow piles up around Rochester
Jan 02, 2025
ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - Cold air is pouring in and so is lake effect snow through today, tonight, and through the weekend. Starting with today, temperatures hold in the lower 30s and fall a few degrees tonight. The snow band will hold just north of Rochester.
The band shifts northward Thursday night into Friday, and most snow here focuses east of Lake Ontario. We get a break from snow through the first half of Friday with some partial sunshine, but it's cold with numbers in the 20s. A wave of energy Friday night will swing this snow band back south, and we get a blast of snow Friday night into Saturday.
I expect a significant snow band off Lake Ontario with an upwind connection through Georgian Bay to impact Monroe County. This will drop several inches of snow Saturday and Saturday night.
I see no change with the band through Sunday morning, so that could essentially double what falls on Saturday. The band should taper off by Sunday night and into Monday. Bitter cold air persists into early next week. There could be a few flakes around Tuesday, and then some more LES behind that going into the end of next week.
