This morning will bring dry but cold conditions across the state, as temperatures hover in the middle to upper 20s, with wind chills in the teens. A typical January day in Indiana is expected before light snow develops tonight and through the overnight. This afternoon will eventually bring an increase in clouds, steady winds from the southwest at 7-13 mph and seasonal temperatures. Expect afternoon highs in the upper 30s (average: 37°). Tonight, light snow from a clipper will slip across the state producing about an 1/2" for downtown and adjacent counties. Up to 2" will be possible for counties north of downtown from Lafayette to Muncie and points in between. This will result in slick roads and some impacts that will continue into early Friday morning. This weekend starts out quiet and sunny for Saturday before a likely winter storm impacts the region by Sunday morning. A Winter Storm Watch should be issued within the next 24-36 hours for our area. Several trusted future weather models have been quite consistent on the track, timing, and amounts the past couple of days, so confidence remains strong on its impact locally. Snowfall totals could be high and travel messy from Sunday through Monday evening. A snowfall totals map will be issued from us tomorrow, as we drop into that 48 hour window. Time to get the dust off your snow blowers and shovels---this one looks promising!
