FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — The suspect in the deadly New Orleans attack on New Year's Day may have ties to central North Carolina, records show. Authorities said Samsud-Din Bahar Jabbar drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing at least 15 people and injuring more than 35. Jabbar was then shot and killed by police. CBS 17 also found two addresses linked to Jabbar in Fayetteville. One was on Abbotts Park Road and another was on Reilly Road from 2012 and 2013. Jabbar served in the U.S. Army, as confirmed by an Army spokesperson. "Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar was in the regular Army as a human resource specialist (42A) and information technology specialist (25B) from March 2007 until January 2015 and then in the Army Reserve as an IT Specialist (25B) from January 2015 until July 2020," the Army spokesperson said in a statement. "He deployed to Afghanistan from February 2009 to January 2010. He held the rank of staff sergeant at the end of service." The Army did not say if Jabbar was stationed at Fort Liberty. CBS 17 has reached out for more information. The FBI is investigating the incident as an act of terrorism.
