WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- After a deadly truck attack in New Orleans, which killed a confirmed 15 people as of Wednesday night, President Joe Biden spoke to the nation. "The spirit of New Orleans will never, never, never be defeated," he said. That spirit is exemplified in the D.C. area through the words of Kenyattah Robinson. Robinson, who has spent more than half of his life living in Washington, D.C., grew up in New Orleans. "Even though D.C. is now my adopted hometown, I still have a lot of New Orleans pride," Robinson told DC News Now. 15 dead, dozens injured after car plows into crowd in New Orleans: ‘Horrific act of violence’ Robinson, who spent his first 17 years in Louisiana, said he still has family and friends there and visits Bourbon Street often when he returns home. He spoke about the impact of the attack on the culture of the city. "When we think of the revelry or even sometimes the not-so-great things that could happen down there, never in a million years would you imagine something like this," he said. "Having this incident happened on Bourbon Street, that really cuts deep. That's the iconic, heart of our city. It's the ethos of our city. It's where people come out and gather and play." The attack has led to the one-day postponement of the Sugar Bowl, a College Football Playoff game. The city is also set to host the Super Bowl next month. Robinson said he's hopeful the city will be able to host both games and large-scale events safely if they learn from the lessons of the New Year's Day attack. However, his main message was to encourage prayer for the victims and their families, those battling their injuries and his city. He described the city as resilient. "The city is strong," he said. "It will come back from this."
