CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- One person is hurt and a family is without a home after a New Year's Day kitchen fire in Chesterfield County. At about 8:17 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, crews with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS were called to the 12000 block of Taplow Road for report of a house fire. When they arrived, firefighters found a fire in the home's kitchen. 8News spoke with the acting battalion chief at the scene, Capt. Christopher Kearney, who said crews were able to quickly put out the flames. The scene was marked as under control in just over 20 minutes. (Photo: Jakobi Davis/8News) One adult was hurt in the fire, according to Kearney, who added that it was an injury to their hand. A spokesperson later confirmed to 8News that it was a minor burn. They received treatment at the scene by first responders. Man shot on New Year’s Day recovering at Richmond hospital The fire's damage displaced four adults and two children, according to the spokesperson. They are being assisted by family.
