ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) - Members at Midtown Athletic Club chose to spend the first day of the new year getting a workout in! The club stayed consistently busy Wednesday morning as folks utilized the treadmills, practiced yoga, and took instructor-led classes. Although many of those who were there have been going to Midtown for years now, they said they set new fitness goals for themselves each year. News 8 asked several members what their goals are for 2025 and was given a wide variety of responses ranging from lifting more weights to focusing on cardio. Most members shared a common goal too: focusing more on mental health and wellbeing. Club member Keleigh Nealon said it's one she's hoping to hone in on this year "My biggest goal this year is finding harmony and balance in my life between work, life, friendship, exercise and mental health," Nealon said. Robert Piazza Palotto shared a similar goal, focusing on his connection to those around him. "Setting mental goals like improving your ability to be a better person makes a big difference," Piazza Palotto said. Midtown's Program Manager Randi Lattimore said she hopes to channel her positivity through the work she does at the club. "I hope to help more people, to connect with them, and to get out of my own way," Lattimore said. "I want to be as authentic, genuine, and purposeful as possible." In a 2018 poll by Marist University, an estimated 13% of respondents said their New Year's resolution was to exercise more often.
