SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Two pedestrians are dead after being hit by two cars that collided near a Lemon Grove 7-Eleven on New Year's Day, sheriff's department officials confirmed. The crash was reported around 11:17 a.m. in the area of Broadway and Buena Vista Avenue. No information about what led up to the crash is known at this time, although the collision resulted in one car wrapped around the pole of a street light. Officials with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department confirmed two pedestrians trying to cross the street at the time of the collision were struck and both pedestrians died from their injuries. They have only been identified so far as a 19-year-old female and a 20-year-old male. Police conducting DUI checkpoint in Chula Vista The occupants of both vehicles involved were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries, sheriff's say. San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies will remain on the scene for several hours as they investigate the crash and clean-up the wreckage.
