CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - It's New Year's, and Americans across the globe have set their personal goals for the year and are ready to bring them to reality. Some popular resolutions include exercising more, losing weight, eating healthier, saving money, and quitting bad habits. As easy as it may be to come up with those resolutions, studies have shown that it is much harder for people to follow through and complete them. Estimates have shown that more than 40% of Americans make New Year's resolutions and research from the University of Scranton, only 8 percent of people achieved them. Studies have also shown that part of the issue is when things come up in life people get thrown off and also that people try to set too many goals at once. However, it is recommended that people keep their list of goals simple so that they are attainable and realistic. While fitness and finances are some of the top resolutions for the new year, some others include taking a social media break, drinking more water, and reading more books. For 2024, experts say people should try to reach their goals one by one to avoid stress and frustration.
