A warming trend starts Thursday that could break record high temperatures in parts of New Mexico Friday. Winds increase this weekend as a storm scrapes the state. It is a quiet start to the New Year across New Mexico with slightly cooler temperatures compared to New Year's Eve. Skies are mostly sunny with with some gusty winds in northern New Mexico. A warming trend starts Thursday afternoon. By Friday afternoon, record high temperatures are possible in a few locations across the state. A storm system will scrape New Mexico Saturday into Sunday, but unfortunately it will be bringing much if any precipitation. A few flurries are possible in the northern mountains this weekend, but winds will be the bigger story. Westerly winds could gust over 45 mph Saturday afternoon, with breezy winds returning Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will also be slightly cooler this weekend, but still above average for early January. Our weather turns even more active next week when a storm system could bring widespread snowfall to New Mexico. Confidence is currently low with this storm next Tuesday and Wednesday, but forecast models have been consistent on bringing snowfall across New Mexico with much colder temperatures as well.
