INDIANAPOLIS – A south side Indianapolis family escaped injury after a fire broke out in their garage Tuesday night. According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. to the 7400 block of Copperwood Drive where they encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the residence. It appeared the fire started in the garage before destroying a “significant portion” of the residence. The family of four and their two pets were able to escape without injury. They’ll stay will relatives for the time being, IFD said. The family had lived at the home since 2020. The exact cause remains under investigation.
