FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Businesses across Fresno are gearing up for a busy New Year's Eve, and while fun celebrations are top of mind for many, law enforcement officers are also stressing safety.  "The whole district will be pounding tonight out here," said Bobby Salazar, president of the Bobby Salazar restaurant chain. He said their bar in the Tower District has been preparing for a good crowd on Dec. 31.  The restaurant started out the day busy, with plenty of to go orders. Through the evening, people were picking up party platters for house parties and celebrations. "Alone here at this location, we have a little over 100 and our other locations are probably in the 80 to 90 range of trays," Salazar said.  While music and drinks and maybe even a New Year's kiss are likely priorities for party goers, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office is stressing safety, no matter how you celebrate.  Public Information Officer Tony Botti said two of their biggest concerns are illegal fireworks and celebratory gunshots.  "The basic message is celebrate responsibly," he said.  Botti said when it comes to fireworks, only use ones marked safe and sane. He added there are steep consequences for those caught firing guns up into the air. He said you could face felony charges for negligent discharge of a firearm.  "Remember, you have no control over that bullet once it leaves the firearm. And even if it's going straight up in the air, it has to come down somewhere. And what it could strike a home, a person, a car, just completely dangerous don't do it," he said.  Still, for those celebrating with a drink, always plan to have a rideshare home or a sober designated driver.  Salazar said they take safety seriously at their bar and only want good vibes to enter 2025.  "You know, we keep out the people that we don't want in here. And, you know, if you're going to not have a good time, we ask you to leave. And you know, be careful driving - take an Uber," he said.  For those on the road and still traveling for the holiday, CHP's maximum enforcement period continues until January 1st night at midnight.
