WAHIAWA, Hawaii (KHON2) -- Honolulu Fire Department officials have called off the search for a missing hiker on the Wahiawa Hills Trail.

The 911 call came in at 6:42 p.m. when it was reported that a male hiker was hiking the trail for about four hours.

He then became lost and was unable to descend the trail on his own.
Five units staffed with 15 personnel responded to the incident with the first few firefighters arriving at the scene shortly before 7 p.m.
Officials said units secured a landing zone to prepare for a search by air.
The search was suspended just after 8 p.m. due to inclement weather and is set to resume at first light on Wednesday, Jan. 1.
